Lateral Femoral Condyle

A condyle is a round projection at the end of the bone. One of the two prominences at the end of the thigh bone, the lateral condyle, is located on the outer side of the femur. The outer ligaments, which provide knee stability, attach to the lateral femoral condyle. The popliteus tendon, attaches the popliteus muscle located on the backside of the tibia, to a groove in the lateral femoral condyle. The larger condyle on the inner side of the leg is the medial femoral condyle.
